To be a professional photographer is to be in a constant state of practice. Shooting still lifes
and nature-scapes is a form of exercise for the creative muscles and control over the camera’s abilities.
A colorful flower, an interesting blade of grass or sunny landscape is a patient model that is always available.
I have the best brainstorm sessions when I am shooting alone in the park, letting my eyes and my feet lead me to new locations to shoot. I find interesting textures and faded colors on walls, repeating lines and shapes on railings that draw the eye in. By the time the sun sets, I have added pages of ideas into my journal. Now, all I am missing is a model like you to pose and complete the vision.
